AMD's Lisa Su Says Chip Supply Will Rise Substantially in 2027 After Asia Supplier Tour
The CEO met Foxconn in Taiwan and memory makers Samsung and SK Hynix in South Korea.
AMD plans to substantially increase its semiconductor supply in 2027, CEO Lisa Su said during a visit to Taiwan, Reuters reports.
The supplier tour
- In Taiwan, Su met with Foxconn and planned talks with TSMC, which manufactures AMD's processors.
- She then traveled to South Korea to discuss memory supply with Samsung and SK Hynix.
High-bandwidth memory has become one of the tightest components in AI accelerators, and locking in supply from both major Korean producers is essential to any plan to ship more Instinct data center GPUs.
Venice arrives in servers
AMD's next-generation EPYC 9006 "Venice" server processors are also starting to appear in partner systems. HPE said its first ProLiant Gen 13 servers will use Venice, including the ProLiant DL585a, a 10U system with up to eight double-width GPUs and two EPYC CPUs of up to 256 cores each. HPE expects availability in March 2027.
AMD Ventures also participated this week in a $250 million Series B for Vinci, a startup that began with AI-driven thermal simulation for semiconductor design.
