Google Signs 3,590-Megawatt Power Deal With Constellation, Among the Largest Corporate Electricity Buys in the U.S.
Nuclear plant upgrades across three states will supply part of the power starting in 2028.
Google has agreed to buy 3,590 megawatts of power from Constellation Energy, one of the largest corporate electricity purchases ever in the United States, as AI workloads push hyperscalers to lock in long-term supply.
The structure
- 890 MW will come from capacity upgrades at 11 nuclear units in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey under a 20-year agreement, with first output expected in 2028.
- 2,700 MW comes through supply arrangements in the PJM grid region.
Constellation said the agreement could support more than $4.3 billion in investment.
A nuclear land grab
The deal follows Amazon's 20-year power purchase agreement with Constellation, which is now moving ahead with roughly $3 billion in upgrades at Maryland's Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant. Big Tech is on track to spend an estimated $650 billion on capital projects in 2026, much of it on AI data centers that need around-the-clock power.
Pushback in Europe
Not every build-out is going smoothly. In Finland, regulators ordered Google subsidiary Tuike Finland to suspend preparatory work at two planned data center sites over suspected illegal forest clearing.
