Amazon said on Tuesday it plans to invest more than €16 billion (about $18 billion) in Germany in 2027, announcing the figure at the Invest in Germany Summit in Berlin, which the federal government hosted.

Cloud and research

  • AWS Frankfurt: about €4.8 billion through 2027 to expand the AWS Europe (Frankfurt) Region, which launched in October 2014
  • Berlin lab: a second robotics and AI research lab, doubling Amazon's research presence in the capital, which will hire applied scientists and robotics hardware and software engineers
  • Sovereign cloud: Amazon noted its European Sovereign Cloud in Germany has been generally available since January 2026

Logistics and other projects

Amazon will finish modernizing fulfillment centers in Bad Hersfeld, Dortmund and Werne in 2027, with work in Koblenz, Pforzheim and Rheinberg continuing through 2028. A Zweibrücken center opens this year and another is under construction in Könnern. The company is also expanding its Amazon Leo satellite broadband network, for which it has secured 24 launches with Arianespace, and plans more than 15 productions for Prime Video in Germany through the end of 2027.

Track record

Amazon says it has invested more than €100 billion in Germany since 2010 and created over 40,000 permanent jobs there, including 3,000 at AWS. The announced logistics projects are expected to add more than 3,000 more jobs. The company also reported carbon-free energy projects in Germany totaling more than 1.3 GW.

Statements

David Zapolsky, Amazon's chief global affairs and legal officer, said the company wants German businesses and creators "to have the infrastructure and tools they need to compete and grow." Germany's economy and energy minister, Katherina Reiche, called the investment "a clear vote of confidence in Germany as a location for the future."
