Amazon is in talks to acquire the artificial intelligence startup Decart for around $7 billion, according to a Wall Street Journal report on October 11, 2026 that cited people familiar with the matter. No agreement has been announced, and Amazon and Decart have not confirmed the discussions.
What was reported
- A deal could come soon if talks do not fall apart or another suitor emerges, the Journal reported.
- Decart was valued at nearly $4 billion in May, according to PitchBook data cited by the Journal.
- In May the startup raised $300 million in a round led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia joining as a new investor.
- Bloomberg News reported that Anthropic explored acquiring Decart in August in a deal that could have been worth about $6 billion, but decided against it last month after due diligence.
Reuters said it could not immediately verify the report. Amazon declined to comment outside regular business hours, and Decart did not respond to requests for comment, according to Reuters.
About Decart
According to Decart's website, the company builds Lucy, an Nvidia-backed model that can edit live video in real time, and Oasis, a model that generates simulated environments for training and testing robotics and autonomous-driving systems.
Separate coverage describes a software product, the Decart Optimization Stack, that tunes AI model performance across different hardware, including Nvidia GPUs, Google TPUs and Amazon's own Trainium chips. That capability could matter to cloud providers trying to make better use of mixed fleets of chips, though that reasoning comes from analysts rather than from the companies.
What to watch
The talks are unconfirmed, and terms could change or the discussions could end without a deal. If a transaction is announced, it would be one of the larger AI acquisitions by Amazon, which has more commonly made minority investments in AI companies.
