Anthropic Reportedly Tells Investors Q3 Revenue Reached $16.8 Billion

According to the Financial Times, the figures were shown to prospective investors ahead of a possible IPO; Anthropic has not published them.

Anthropic reportedly told prospective investors that its third-quarter revenue reached $16.8 billion, according to the Financial Times as summarized by TechStartups. The figures come from people familiar with the presentations and have not been published or audited by the company.

The reported numbers

Based on that reporting, revenue grew about 45% from the second quarter's roughly $11.6 billion. The Financial Times put the increase at nearly 50%. TechStartups cites roughly $4.7 billion for the first quarter, which would put the latest quarter at an annualized pace of about $67 billion.

  • Profitability: adjusted profit for a second consecutive quarter, and positive cash flow
  • Compute efficiency: about $1.70 of revenue for every dollar spent on computing
  • Distillation: 5% to 7% of revenue reportedly came from companies training systems on Claude's outputs

IPO talk

The reporting says Anthropic is preparing a public listing, potentially as early as November, at a valuation approaching $2 trillion. Timing would depend on market conditions and regulatory requirements. Anthropic has not confirmed these plans.

Caveats

Adjusted profit is not the same as profit under standard accounting rules and can exclude items such as stock-based compensation. TechStartups also noted that growth slowed between the second and third quarters, and that Anthropic has reportedly committed more than $500 billion to computing infrastructure over the next decade. Amazon, Google and Microsoft are described as backers who are also customers, suppliers and competitors.

Until Anthropic files publicly or confirms the numbers, they should be treated as unverified.
