Mercedes-Benz and Nvidia announced on October 16 that they are expanding their strategic partnership to develop the next generation of driver assistance and automated driving systems.

What the companies will build

The collaboration pairs Mercedes-Benz's vehicle engineering, safety expertise and MB.OS operating system with three Nvidia technologies:

  • Nvidia Hyperion, the in-vehicle compute and sensor architecture, which works with MB.OS and supports new driving functions and over-the-air updates
  • Nvidia Alpamayo Stack, driving software with AI reasoning that supports point-to-point urban assistance, active safety and automated parking
  • Nvidia Halos, a safety system that adds a parallel stack for redundancy and guardrails

The target applications are advanced driver assistance and future SAE Level 4 uses, including what the release calls robolimousines.

Beyond the car

Mercedes-Benz also uses Nvidia technology for vehicle engineering simulation and in MO360, its digital production ecosystem, from virtual planning to AI-based applications. The companies said they aim to improve efficiency, flexibility and quality across Mercedes-Benz's global production network.

Quotes and gaps

Jörg Burzer, Mercedes-Benz board member for development and procurement, said that "NVIDIA is our most important strategic partner in automated driving." Ali Kani, Nvidia's vice president of automotive, said the partnership would help make autonomous driving an everyday reality.

The announcement did not include financial terms, vehicle models, launch dates or milestones.

Context

The deal follows an Nvidia announcement a day earlier that Volvo Cars is also expanding its work with the chipmaker on automated driving, using the same Hyperion, Halos and Alpamayo stack. Mercedes-Benz reported selling more than 2.1 million passenger cars and vans in 2025 and operates around 30 production sites on four continents, according to the release.
